Sojourner Truth spoke at the womens convention of 1851. She begins by saying all the problems that are pulling the north and south apart are going to lead to putting white men in a very bad place. She then carries on to say that many people think of women as delicate and fragile, however, she works in the fields and is independent because she has had to struggle to get by. She also says its unfair to think of women and men as being less equipped than men in intellectual fields as well.When a man in the back says that men are superior because christ was a man, she tells him that Christ came from a God and a women, so his argument is irrelevant. She wants women to fight for equal rights in America because she believes that man have no natural inborn superiority over women.

Frederick Douglas was in Rochester to give a speech on the fourth of july. He brings up questions about the extent of liberty that is granted to very american citizen because there are so many blacks that are still not seen as people. The blacks not being included in the fourth of july celebrations saw it as a mockery. He calls slavery the biggest sin in America because it goes against the declaration, constitution, bible, and name of humanity. He says that overall the fourth of july celebrations are demeaning to blacks and clear injustice. He points out the irony in how the values celebrated in the holiday completely go against how America actually treats their people. He hopes that America will eventually outlaw slavery.

John C Calhoun's speech is about how slavery will eventually lead to the disunion in America if not taken care of. He thinks that the two parties have to come together and gain more knowledge and understanding on the matter that is pulling the country apart. He said that the northerners questioning the value of slavery, angered the southerners, leading to disunion. In addition he thinks that the north taking a more dominant economic and political role in America also angered the southerners, to the point that they think they cannot honorably stay in the union if things continue the same way. They were also angered because 5 free states were added to the union and 0 slave states were. The population in the north is also growing at a much faster rate because of immigration, giving them more power. Also the tariffs hurt southern farmers by making goods more expensive, while mainly only protecting the Industries which are all located up north. Calhoun, said that with these conditions the South was feeling that they were either forced to secede or else they would be forced into abolition. He warns that the only way to prevent the south from seceding is to give them equal representation in government and give them their fair share of new territory. Then he dies.

LAD 12

The US and Mexico were in need of diplomacy to achieve peace between nations, so the US sent Slidell, a minister, to conduct negotiations on the boarders and tensions between the US and Mexico, and he was assured by General Herrera, that the mexican government would except him. However, when he arrived a revolutionary party forced the government to reject his request to negotiate terms with the US. Soon after this General Herrera had to surrender his power of mexico after a military take over of Mexico, and Paredes took power. This government was even less open to commence negotiations, and eventually lead to further disputes and conflicts along the Texas Mexico boarder. This resulted in a build up of troops on both sides, and Mexico declaring war on the US as a result of the troop build up creating conflicts. President polk said that the US should carry out the war to protect American interests and honor, in his speech to the American people.

The declaration of Sentiments made the paved the way for

The Seneca Falls Declaration of Sentiments and Resolutions, paved the way for the womens rights movement in 1848. It is written in the style of the Declaration of Independence, to try to hint at the fact that letting women have equal rights is what is truly in line with American Values. It essentially says to not let women have their unalienable rights, would be against god, constitutional values, and the principles in the Declaration of Independence. Most American men in power would not want to admit that they disagreed with these values, which is why the declaration of sentiments was an effective document for gaining support for women.

The monroed doctrine said that European powers could no longer have claims to land in the americas. This expressed american nationalism, and the new feeling of global power that we were starting to have post 1812 becuase we were able to stand up to european powers that were much stronger. Also it was showing how we wished to remain neutral.
Adams would have wrote the Monroe doctrine, becuase jefferson and madison were telling Monroe to ally with France and Britain in order to keep spain from reclaiming their colonies in the Americas. Adams wanted the US to have more control in the Americas, and not have to worry about European affairs, so he wrote the Monroe Doctrine to keep all Europeans out of the Americas, even though they were not strong enough to enforce it.
The most important part of the Monroe Doctrine was Adams stressing the importance of neutrality for the nation. Without it, there would have been many more wars in America's early years against more powerful countries, and the US would have had a hard time growing.

In the Cuban Missile Crisis, the US was very worried about another world power's.

Christopher Columbus was most definitely not a hero, unless you want to also consider Adolf Hitler a hero. Within hours of his landing at the "Indies" he described the indigenous people, the Arawak, as ignorant and said they should be good slaves. Looking no further than that, one should not be able to consider this man a hero. Even if he just had the idea of enslaving a whole race of people, he wouldn't be a real hero, but for Columbus he had more than just the idea, he actually devastated the Caribbean islands. Through forced labor, disease, rape, and straight up murder Columbus' and his men killed millions of Native Americans, on the Island of Hispaniola, killing 100% of its 250,000 inhabitants. Most of his motivation for doing so was his own self interest, he wanted to make a profit and impress the Spanish royalty with his ability to bring wealthy and slaves back to Spain. However, beyond green, he also did things out of just pure cynicism. Columbus and his men were known to have their dogs tear the natives to shreds, rape underage girls, and cut off the hands of people as punishments. The fact that Columbus day is a holiday, yet there is no Alabama Black day (the inventor of the kazoo, and killed 0 people), is absolutely insane.
